It Was My Turn to Do Something Nice for My Friend

My best friend had been having a tough time for a few years. She kept me up to date on everything going on in her life, and I did my best to contact her to check on her as well. One of her children passed away from cancer. Soon after, her husband divorced her. She became depressed. I was worried about her being alone. One night, I decided to look apartments for rent in Newport News with the brief thought of moving to live closer to her. I am not married and have no kids, so I knew that it would be fairly easy for me to get up and move closer to give her a helping hand. I wanted to mull the possibility over in my mind for awhile before talking to her about it.

I met my best friend in the military. We hit it off as soon as we met one another in basic training. We have done our best to stay in touch ever since then, even though we moved to separate states after we were discharged from the military. Most people wouldn’t understand how two friends could stay so close with only the phone and email, but we did it quite easily. She has helped me through many things in life, so I felt that it was my turn to give back to her. I loved the city where she lives, and I knew there are a lot of jobs there. So, I knew it wouldn’t be too hard to make the move to where she is.

When I talked to my friend about it, she was excited about it. We discussed getting an apartment together, and that is what we did in the end. I’ve been living with her for 6 months now, and things are going really good. Having me around to support her has been a big help for her as well.
